my favorite books (in order!), next to the Bible, are the catcher in the rye, like water for chocolate, and fat. well.. i dont have favorite quotes from fat. my favorite funny quotes from the catcher in the rye are:
Old Sally kept saying, "I know that guy from somewhere." She always knew somebody, any place you took her, or thought she did. She kept saying that till I got bored as hell, and I said to her, "Why don't you go on over and give him a big soul kiss, if you know him? He'll enjoy it." She got sore when i said that.
**i can imagine the scene. hahaha! that would be really, really funny. :]
He stepped back, and stepped right on the lady's foot behind him. He probable broke every toe in her body.
If you had a million years to do it in, you couldn't rub out even half the f*** you signs in the world. It's impossible.
**maybe if we all worked together....riiiight?:]
who wants flowers when you're dead? Nobody.
what knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up whenever you felt like it.
People are mostly hot to have a discussion when you're not.
and the longest one is:
Holden: They kept yelling 'Digression!' at him the whole time he he was making it (his speech), and his teacher, Mr. Vinson, gave him an F on it because he hadn't told what kind of animals and vegetables and stuff grew on the farm and all. What he did was, Richard Kinsella, he'd start telling you all about this letter his mother got from his uncle, and how his uncle got polio and all when he was forty-two years old, and how he wouldn't let anybody come to see him in hospital because he didn't want anybody to see him with his brace on. It didnt have much to do with the farm-I admit it-but it was nice. It's nice when somebody tells you about their uncle. Especially when they start out telling you about their father's farm and then all of a sudden get more interested in their uncle. I mean it's dirty to keep yelling 'Digression!' at him when he's all nice and excited...I don't know. It's hard to explain.
Mr. Antolini: Holden...One short, faintly stuffy, pedagogical question. Don't you think there's a time and place for everything? Don't you think if someone starts out to tell you about their father's farm, he should stick to his guns, then start telling you about his uncle's braces? Or if his uncle's brace is such a provocative subject, shouldn't he have selected it in the first place as his subject-not the farm?
Holden: Yes-I don't know. I guess he should. I mean he should've picked his uncle as his subject, instead of the farm, if that interested him the most. But what I mean is, lots of time you don't know what interests you most till you start talking about something that doesn't interest you most. I mean you can't help it sometimes. What I think is, you're supposed to leave somebody alone if he's at least being interesting and he's getting all excited at something. I like it when somebody gets excited about something. It's nice.
awww..how cute is Holden Caulfield?:] if only he were a real guy, i wouldve had a crush on him long before. :] i heard that the author, JD salinger, doesnt like to be interviewed and stuff. i even read from somewhere that he actually ran from reporters. how strange and interesting. :] i like the way he expresses his thoughts. i may not agree with him all the way, but he makes you feel what he feels. then you eventually get him. you eventually realize how you feel the same way, too, sometimes. it's weird and nice at the same time. he's so honest with his opinions that you trust him in an instant. i mean, not the person, but the literary piece. i love it! remember: The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger.:]
next ones are from like water for chocolate. you see it in National Bookstore often. well..yeah..
How unfortunate that black holes in space had not yet been discovered, for then she might have understood the black hole in the center of her chest, infinite coldness flowing through it.
She was thinking how easy it was to wish for things as a child. Then nothing seemed impossible. Growing up, one realizes how many things one cannot wish for, the things that are forbidden, sinful. Indecent.
what i liked about the book is that it makes you feel what the main character (Tita) felt. she was so emo. hehe.. i mean, negatively emo. i dunno..i just felt that. in addition to that, the author (Laura Esquivel) used the literary genre called magical realism, where the scenes are exaggerated. it's pretty hilarious sometimes, but it is really nice. :]
i want to know more quotes from books, magazines, the Bible (verses at that), celebrities, songs, or even from you! so if you have time to comment, please do. :] it'd be nice to hear different quotes.
What fun would life be if we all thought alike? Variety is the spice of life.
God bless you all!:]
