this is my favorite guy from PATD: RYAN ROSS. i love his make-up. hehe..tell me if he's cute. :]
see? hehehehe..cuuuuuute!
okay heres the hangul lesson. i thought about teaching you the korean language, but i cant do that because:
a.) i cant talk to you personally. it's better when you hear it. i thought about embedding a video from YouTube. i thought of putting a video of the show "Let's Speak Korean", aka LSK, here on this post. they discuss the pronunciation and how to use it in daily conversations. that would be good, but the problem with the show is that it's hard to learn it if you dont know how to read hangul. you can try viewing it by typing 'let's speak korean' on YouTube.
b.) i havent mastered the language yet. i cant teach what i dont know, right?:]
so because of this, ive decided to teach you hangul first.:] wouldnt it be nice to read korean characters from stationeries, even if you dont know what they mean?:] hehe.. i taught my friend how to read and write hangul, and now we can read the korean characters we can see whenever we travel together. yay! <3 size="5">아 에 이 오 우 으 어 애 : a, e, i, o, u, eu, eo, ae
these are the vowels, and special vowels, of hangul. the 'ㅇ' is a silent character. so that's
ㅏ ㅔ ㅣ ㅗ ㅜ ㅡ ㅓ ㅐ: a, e, i, o, u, eu, ae
we use the ones with the circles (ㅇ) because these characters ㅏㅔㅣㅗㅜㅡㅓㅐ cannot stand alone. they should always be together with the "circles". for example:
아마 - ama
see that? ㅁis the hangul for 'M' . it sticked with the character ㅏ. but notice that the first syllable of the word "ama" starts with "a". there is a "circle" attached to ㅏ, because ㅏcant stand alone. :] we dont write ㅏ마. that's wrong.
do you get it? i hope you do. here are the hangul consonants.
we have new consonants here! :] the K' there in the picture is actually the "K" in our alphabet. the K in the picture is actually our beloved letter G. the T is our letter D and the T' is out letter T. the P' there is our letter P, and the P there is our letter B. letter R and letter L are both ㄹ. and the dont worry about tt, jj, ss, pp, kk. theyre just doubles. they differ in pronunciation in some way, but let's just learn the basics first. :] they our very own "circle" that im was talking about earlier, can be used as "NG", but you cant use it as the first korean character of a syllable. there cant be "Nga, Nge, Ngi, Ngo, Ngu, Ngeu, Ngae" on korean words. by the way, "EU" is a silent vowel.
now in writing we have the first simple formula (i made it. hehe.):
circle + korean vowel
i mentioned this earlier. ㅇ(circle) + ㅏ(a) = 아 (a)
another example: ㅇ(circle) + ㅜ(u) = 우 (u)
pretty easy, right? i forgot to mention ya, ye, there's no YI, yo, yu, there's no yeu, and yae. you just double the "lines". see this:
ㅑ ㅖ ㅛ ㅠ ㅒ (ya, ye, yo, yu, yae)
you just double the lines from 아(a) and you get 야. same goes to the others. :] and of course they cant stand alone, too. there should be a "circle" before them.
the next formula would be:
korean consonant + korean vowel
for example: ㅂ(b) + ㅣ(i) = 비 (bi. in english: rain).
now you can write a korean actor's name! Bi! Rain is called Bi in korea. bi means rain. :] you just put them together. if 이 is "i", just replace the circle and put in the consonant ㅂ. it's really easy. just think of the "circle" as a seat where the korean consonants can sit on. just add some imagination so you can learn better. :]
another formula here:
korean consonant/circle + korean vowel / another korean vowel(s)
this is pretty confusing, because as i said on my last post, korean words have spellings, too. theyre not really spellings, but "arrangements". youll get me when you begin to understand korean writing. look at this example:
ㅂ(b) + ㅣ(i) / ㄴ(n) = 빈 (bin)
you put them all together on one syllable, but that's not always the case. you have to be familiar with korean words. try it with tagalog words like this:
마(ma) +간(gan)+ 다(da)= 마간다 (maganda)
just keep on reviewing the first rule, then the second rule, then finally the third rule. sometimes there are two consonants under, but dont confuse yourself. take it easy. :] if you keep on practicing, youll learn writing in less than a week. i learned in one week!:]
you'll get easily familiarized with writing and reading when you have korean dvds (with korean subtitles). if you're interested to learn, youll learn.
so God bless! enjoy it, it'll be easy. :] if you want to try watching LSK then here you go:
